Trade Signs were awarded the contract to manufacture and install 2 large ITV signs for the new ITV building in Manchester. The specification from our client was to fabricate a large version of the ITV logo, approximately 5 metres wide and 2.4m high. The logo was to fully illuminate using LEDs, and hang over the side of the building, to appear as though it is floating.
Due to the sheer size of the signs, we had to design and fabricate a support frame to bolt down to the roof of the building to allow the sign to hang over the face of the glass fronted building. This had to be structurally sound, spread the weight evenly, whilst still being aesthetically pleasing - as the framework would be seen from above. Trade Signs were given free-reign to design the framework, but had to ensure it was made in a practical and efficient manner, whilst maintaining structural integrity.
Once all the signage and metalwork was complete, our Project Manager liaised with the client, ITV, and other contractors on site to arrange installation of both signs. The installation posed a number of issues, as each sign and frame weighed approximately 900kg and were to be fitted 23 metres up on the building with very limited access on site. A large crane and cherry picker was required for this. Our installation team had to work closely with the contractors on site to ensure our work was not going to have any adverse effect on other works being carried out. Both teams worked in partnership to ensure the installation was complete on time.
We paid a huge amount of attention to detail to everything involved on the project. We ensured all of the metalwork and signage was of the highest quality, something we pride ourselves on. Our attention to detail does not stop in the manufacturing but also during the installation; Our Project Manager worked closely with the client at all times to ensure everything ran smoothly throughout the whole process. This meant liaising closely, regular onsite meetings with them and ITV, to ensure a first class service from start to finish
Showcase: Coronation Street
In September 2013, Trade Signs were awarded the contract to manufacture and install 4 large signs for the brand new Coronation Street studio and building in Manchester.
The initial specification from our client (a design and projects company working for ITV), was to fabricate a large version of the Coronation Street road sign, recreating the pitted look of the cast iron but with a brushed stainless steel finish.
